Two IRIS data reports were recently cited in Academic Research and Development, part of Science and Engineering Indicators 2022, a statistical reference report produced by the National Science Board, the National Science Foundation and the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES).

The 2021 IRIS report titled “Aggregate Report of Universities’ Research-Related Employment and Spending” was cited as evidence that undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral researchers are vital to the academic R&D enterprise and constitute a significant portion of individuals funded by research grants.

A section on COVID-19 and Academic R&D cited data from the IRIS’ 2020 report “COVID-19 Impact Report Aggregate (10 Universities)” indicating a large drop-off in spending from research grants between March and May 2020.

IRIS Managing Director Nancy Calvin-Naylor was also acknowledged as a reviewer.
